Mythical Muses
The nine goddesses who embody the arts are the daughters of Zeus, king of the gods, and Mnemosyne, goddess of memory and they inspire the creation process, even today, with remembered and improvised song and stage, writing, traditional music, and dance. The poet Sappho of Lesbos was given the compliment of being called "the tenth Muse" by Plato. |
